The area of Harsefeld is situated in the southern part of the Stade Geest rural district Stade.
Part of the joined community Harsefeld are the communities Ahlerstedt, Bargstedt, Brest and the market town Harsefeld. The area of the joined community encompasses a surface of 165,29 sqkm a has a population of around 18.900.

The joined community Harsefeld is characteristically situated in a hilly Geest countryside with large wooded areas and meadow valleys of the Aue and its tributaries. The countryside levels out towards the south. Spacious meadow and field surfaces, interspersed with lowlands and bogs, give this part of the community its character. The charming densely wooded surroundings of Harsefeld is ideal for diverse ventures off the everyday hustle and bustle to find recreation and relaxation.

While the villages are mainly agricultural structured, the same doesn't apply to central Harsefeld anymore. Already around the turn of the century, several workshops, e.g. brick manufacture and clay factories settled here. Today, efficient workshops and commercial industries with an action radius far into the Hamburg area have settled here.
