The community Himmelpforten ultimately makes a great impression because of the windmills in Grefenmoor and Himmelpforten. The windmill in Grefenmoor was build in the years 1853/54. A signature collection in 1847 supported the construction to a very great extent. In 1896 the mill burnt nearly completly down after it was hit by lightning. As a result , the still today existing single-storey gallery-dutch-windmill was build. In the meantime the mill was renovated and offers visitors an interesting insight into the erstwhile millers trade. Today the mill can be seen by appointment and it is even possible to do a funny 'mill-diploma' to lern more about the mill.
In 1871 the four-storey gallery-dutch-windmill in Himmelpforten which has three grain millstones, one grinding millstone and a pointed millstone was build as an replacement for the no longer profitable watermill. The running of the mill who was partly independent of wind and water through motors ceased in 1971. Himmelpforten was able save the 'Wehber'sche mill' through restauration in the years 1985/86. This mill can be visited as well by appointment at normal opening times.
