The community with its local authorities
Burweg, Estorf, Heinbockel,
Kranenburg and Oldendorf
is bordered on three sides by two rivers: Oste and Schwinge.
Visiters have to leave the main roads to get to know the 'idyllic corners' of Stade's geest.

A countryside just right for the people who have had enough from the everyday hassle and bustle and want to have peace and quiet. The attraction is the change from forest to meadows, raised bog, quiet riverbanks and small contemplative villages - with all its leisure possibilities.

One can find very old stone and prehistoric graves and from other finds one knows that there was a saxon settlement already in the 2. and 3. century. There are first written testimonials from the 11. century and there are two ca. 800 years old fieldstone churches. The inhabitants today still enjoy their old traditions:
image author: Samtgemeinde Oldendorf Here one of the last barge ferries crosses over the Oste; one has to use these ethnic vehicle oneself to experience the charm of the unhurried past. Bicycle, carrige and covered wagon are the fitting means of transportation in this quiet countryside. If you want to rest your feet, watersport on the Oste is a delightful aternative.
Should you come back hungry, order the traditional menu: 'Tokokers' ....
