Himmelpforten at a glance

The most interesting sight in Himmelpforten is without doubt the church. The St. Marien- church was build in the year 1738 on the foundations of an old nuns chapel. It has one the oldest church organs in the district (build by Hans Scherer in 1587).

Remarkable in the community are the old farms build in the half-timbered style. Many of them were already build in the early to middle of the 19. century and some are still being farmed. Many of the farm buildings are classified as historical monumnets and listed in the index, building monuments in Niedersachsen, published by the ommunities admisistrations office.

There are as well a few very pretty residential houses in the community, build in the villa-style at the beginning of the century. The former hospital, build in a similar style, is a special mention worth.
