Bürgermeister(mayor)-Hintze-House
image author: Uwe Albrecht

You see immediately the solid sand stone facade of the Mayor-Hintze-House from 1621. It is basically the only thing from this historic house which is still original apart from the brick side walls which are the firewalls for the houses next to it.

The original house was a late gothic, three storey gable house whos facade was renewed in 1621 in the heavy style of the Weser renaissance. Because of the poor building ground and the not so stable foundation, the house got in 1930 so dilapidated that it had to be demolished. Only the careful documented facade was rebuild in 1932/33. All the old bricks were used for it. The totally new building behind it was shorted by a third.

The facade is stylish close the Bremer trade houses. The workpieces are made from grey-white sand stone, the surface from plasted bricks.
Worth mentioning are the seven spires with the stepped gables, the coat of arms on the portal from the builder Heineo Hintze and his wife as well as the two bizarre mask above the entrance.
The houses next the mayors house sliding wrongly into the backround. The house on the right, Wasser West 25, is a simlpe two-storey gable house with only minimal corbels at both storeys. At the outer wall a series of arches from the mayors house is still visible. Noticeable is the richly decorated classicism front door. In the frame are two mask panels from the 17. century to be seen.
